Choosing a Color Scheme for Your Wedding

Having trouble choosing a color scheme for your wedding? Ask yourself four basis questions:
  1. What's your favorite color? Build your color scheme around the hue you love most -- not the basic color like blue or pink. Be specific like teal, turquoise, raspberry, or pink.
  2. What does your wedding reception venue look like? Consider the dominant colors of your venue space before choosing a scheme. It may not work with your scheme.
  3. What flower will you be using? Keep in mind your bable line with the flowers.
  4. What season will your wedding be? For Spring use pastels. Summer use bright colors. Fall, gem tones, metallics, bronze. And Winter, use icy blues

Shabby Chic Wedding

Being different is my forte'. As you read my blogs, you will soon find this out; especially when it comes to creativity. Have you ever considered a shabby chic wedding? I just love them! It can be quite cost effective too. Ideas to follow.

First, let me provide a definition for shabby chic - Refers to a type of design and decorating style that incorporates using art and furniture from older design periods. Specifically, designs that look a litte worn, in order to create a pleasingly aged but elegant desigh scheme. Also known as vintage.

Now, here are just a few shabby chic items you can use at a wedding:
  • vintage candleabras
  • storm lamps
  • vintage photo frames for place cards
  • old floral sheets for draping
  • wicker baskets spray painted for favors
  • vases from thrift stores
  • laced linen table cloths
  • potted combinations filled with flowers or herbs used as centerpieces
  • dried lavender tied with dried grasses afixed to pews
  • candels in mason jars
  • shabby bird cage used for card holders
  • vibrant colors mixed with gold

Be Creative With Wedding Processionals

Every wedding I've attended had the typical format for the bridal party's entrance. You know the usual; groomsmen line up at the front of the church, bridesmaids walk down the aisle with bouquets held with both hands....blah...blah...blah! Boring...........! Guest know just what to expect. Surprise your guest and entertain them. Do something different. Be creative.

At my last wedding, for example, I had the bride walk across a balcony alone, before she walked down the aisle. The echo of "ahhhs" filled the sanctuary. The element of surprise was amazing. The groom was expecially devasted, since it was not part of the rehearsal. Only the bride, the mother of the bride and I knew. It became the topic of discussion among guest throughout the reception. It also helped that the bride looked so beautiful.

Here are just a couple ideas for processionals:
  • Have the groomsmen escort the bridesmaids down the aisle. At the end of the aisle, have them both bow to each other, while the groomsman passes an extra flower. The flower should be the same as the bouquet. They both then assume their positions.
  • Have the groomsmen and bridemaids walk on both outside aisles meeting at the center aisle. Follow the same format mentioned above of bowing and passing a flower.
So, look around your ceremony venue. I'm sure you can do something different. Be creative.
